Inspired by David Wagner's Daymaker concept, Frederic Holzberger, President and CEO of Fredric's Corporation (www.fredrics.com), founded Project Daymaker. Project Daymaker involves a 34-foot Winnebago "Salon on Wheels," which travels to homeless shelters and treatment centers providing haircuts and beauty care to those who are in need and less fortunate. This project literally touches the lives of abused children, battered women, and the homeless. Aveda salon owners and stylists volunteer their time and services in an effort to rebuild their client's self-esteem, ultimately assisting them into the work force.

Many professionals across industries have changed their title to "Daymaker".

Both high schools and elementary schools are undertaking their own Project Daymaker efforts. Hundreds of students have been given the book, Life as a Daymaker and then have been asked to report back to class on the effects of their own Daymaker initiatives. Many educators are committed to making this part of classroom curriculum.

The book was nominated by residents of Saint Paul, MN for the city's "Saint Paul Reads One Book" project. Eventually voted in the top ten, from amongst 2200 nominations, Daymaker was in the same pool with F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby and Sinclair Lewis's Main Street.

The directors of both Aveda and Paul Mitchell Teaching Institutes have made the decision to have every student receive a copy of Life as a Daymaker. They feel as though the concept of "Daymaking" is revolutionizing the industry, both in terms of service and public perception. Students are now excited to bear the name "Daymaker" on their name tags, rather than the specific function they fulfill.

The Minnesota Jaycees, with 2600 members, just voted Life as a Daymaker "Book-of-the-Month."

The impact of the book has been viral. Books are being ordered in bulk quantities by more and more diverse groups.
